Welcome to Kyle United Methodist Church online

The Ministries of Kyle United Methodist Church

All ministries generally fall into three basic categories including: outreach, which reach out to serve the needs of the community; witness, which bear witness of the love of God for His children and provides an example of how we are to live by faith; and nurture, which feed and develop the faith growing within us.  Because many of our ministries contain elements from all three categories, they are sorted into two groups—“Year-round Ministries” and “Seasonal Ministries.”  Also listed, are “New Ministries” we are currently developing.

MINISTRIES

Based on the example and teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Church is called to minister to both the physical and spiritual needs of all God’s children.  The Kyle United Methodist Church is constantly attempting to respond to God’s call.  As is evident in our Vision and Mission statements below, and the brief ministries descriptions that follow, we are centered on serving God and God’s children’s needs in and beyond our community.

Vision Statement

Kyle UMC is dedicated to the empowerment of people to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior through the life changing power of the Holy Spirit, thus, enabling growth in discipleship through worship, teaching, Bible studies, prayer groups, youth groups, and service in the church, community and world.

Mission Statement

Kyle UMC is committed to sharing and strengthening Christian values for all people through the Word of Jesus Christ.  We believe that God calls us to minister through worship, personal growth, fellowship and community outreach.  We put faith into action as we strive to witness to Christ in our community, invite all to participate in our programs regardless of membership, and welcome all who seek spiritual enrichment.

Year - Round Ministries

Food Bank

Using “giving barrels” located in our Fellowship Hall, our members and friends collected and donated over 1,000 pounds of food for area food banks last year.  We are also the only church in the area authorized by the San Marcos area Food Bank to deliver food directly to homeless families in the Kyle area.

Local Benevolence

Using money raised from fundraiser events, we operate a benevolence program designed to provide a helping hand for those needing one time or temporary assistance such as paying a utility bill or providing for emergency food and/or clothing needs.  We also maintain a list of all local relief agencies and attempt to connect those in need with those who can help.

Christian Education

We offer a spiritual growth and formation program for all ages.  Sunday school classes for children, youth and adults teach the stories and lessons of the Bible each Sunday morning beginning at 9:45 a.m.  “Children’s Time” during our 11:00 o’clock worship service, provides age appropriate teaching following the same theme as the morning’s sermon.  Beyond Sunday mornings, Bible Studies following a variety of themes are offered from time to time at various times during the week.  Bible Studies are announced and described in the church Newsletter.

Celebration Singers

We feel that everyone whose heart is filled with the joy of the Lord should have the opportunity to sing about it, even if their voice is less than perfect and/or they can’t read music.  We sing easy and challenging, traditional and contemporary, but always fun and joy filled music.  We meet Sunday morning from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. and/or 5:00 p.m. Sunday afternoons to practice new songs and have fun.  All are welcome to join with us in making a “joyful noise” in praise of our Lord and Savior.

Prayer Chain

Scripture instructs us to pray for one another, and because we believe that God listens to and answers prayer, our members have formed a prayer chain to quickly lift critical needs to God.  Rev. Harold Dailey coordinates the chain and prayer requests can be relayed to him either by calling the church at (512) 268-2331 or by emailing him.

ECI Homespun

Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) is a faith based, government-funded organization, providing assistance to families with children with special needs.  The Kyle United Methodist church supports this ministry by providing our fellowship hall as a weekly meeting site.

Mercy Road AA

The Kyle United Methodist church is proud supporter of the faith based, twelve-step program of Alcoholics Anonymous, providing meeting space in our fellowship hall weekly.  If you are a struggling with alcoholism or a recovering alcoholic and would like to connect with the local Mercy Road AA group, please either call the church at (512) 268-2331 or email us! You can also check the links at alcoholics-anonymous.org.

Seasonal Ministries

Vacation Bible School

Each summer we invite the children of the community join us for a week long VBS.  We offer a complete program including, Bible lessons, crafts, music, fun activities and a snack or meal.  All are welcome and participation is free.

School Supply Drive

Before the beginning of school each year we collect school supplies for a different school in the area.  These supplies are then donated to the school for distribution by school counselors to those children most in need.

Thanksgiving Food Baskets

Each year we collect food and financial donations to help provide a complete Thanksgiving diner with all the trimmings.  Sometimes we work independently and sometimes we coordinate with other agencies to provide meals for as many families in need as possible.  Last year, working with the San Marcos area Food Bank, we were able to provide 35 families with a meal.

Christmas Families

Each year we adopt families with severe needs within our community and provide them with gifts for every member of the family and a Christmas diner.  We interview each family to determine their greatest needs and then we attempt to satisfy as many of their needs as possible while also including gifts for each child intended to bring them special Christmas joy.

Christmas Children’s Program

Children of all ages are invited to participate in a special program in celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.  The nature and size of the program varies, but the time we spend together learning and sharing the Christmas story is always a special blessing to all.

Christmas Caroling

One Sunday evening shortly before Christmas both youth and adults gather to go Christmas Caroling.  We include both home-bound and nursing home residents, and after we have sung until we can sing no more, we return to the church Fellowship Hall and enjoy holiday yummies.

New Ministries

Alpha Course

This past September we began offering the Alpha course.  What is Alpha?  It is a free opportunity to explore the basics of Christianity.  Each evening begins by sharing a meal together, followed by a talk that addresses a key faith issue.  Then after taking a break, time is provided to ask questions, express opinions and/or discuss the topic of the day in a down to earth way.  Why take the course?  Because the friendly, non-pressured approach to this course provides you with the freedom to ask the faith questions you’ve always been curious about.  When will the course next be offered?  As soon as we have a large enough group to begin so sign up now.  How do you sign up and/or obtain more information?  Call Rev. Harold Dailey at the church at (512) 268-2331 or email him. Space will be limited so sign up soon.

Christ Centered Youth Center

The teenagers in our community are surrounded with bad choices regarding how they spend their time, such as gangs, sex, cigarettes, alcohol and drugs.  The glamour, glitz and violence depicted on television and in the movies doesn’t help, further compounding the problem and confusing teens regarding what’s most important in their lives.  The example and teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ provide answers that can help our teens find a better way, but unfortunately, many teens see the church as irrelevant, out of date and boring.  But it doesn’t have to be that way!  It is possible to create an environment, which is safe and fun, and where teens can learn life lessons that will make an eternal difference in their lives.  The Kyle United Methodist Church is currently planning to build a new multipurpose building to provide local youth with a community “Christ Centered Youth Center.”  Using this facility, we plan to offer relevant and fun ways for teens to experience God and grow in faith.  We are asking the Kyle community to partner with us in making this dream a reality.  For more information or to learn how you can help call (512) 268-2331 or email us!
